Gustavo Gutiérrez

Peruvian Dominican priest and founder of Latin American liberation theology. The intellectual cross-pollination between Gutiérrez's liberation theology and Tutu's African contextual theology was direct and documented – Tutu's essay "Black Theology/African Theology – Soul Mates or Antagonists?" appears in the same reader as Gutiérrez's work, and both operated in the same global ecumenical circuits through the World Council of Churches.
