LASTESIS
LASTESIS
A Chilean feminist collective founded in Valparaíso in 2018. LASTESIS became globally known in 2019 with their protest performance Un violador en tu camino ("A Rapist in Your Path") — a choral, choreographic indictment of state violence against women that went viral worldwide and was performed by thousands of women on streets across every continent. Their work sits at the intersection of performance art, feminist theory, and political activism, and has been influential in academic and activist circles globally.
Connection
Esther Anderson, Herbert's granddaughter, participated in a workshop led by LASTESIS at UCC (University College Cork, Ireland) titled "Feminist and political collage: interdisciplinary strategies for performance."
Why Herbert Would Be Delighted
That Herbert's own grandchild is learning directly from one of the most significant feminist activist collectives of the 2020s — and that this reaches back to him — is a connection that spans generations and continents, and speaks to the continuity of the justice tradition across the family.
